Exhibition of Photography by Nettie Pena

Event Name: Exhibition of Photography by Nettie Peña

Topic: Joshua Tree National Park flora

Location: Idyllwild Library, the months of August and September 2018

Event Details: California suffered years of drought, very little rain fell. You might say California's parks and home gardens turned brown. Joshua Tree suffered from lack of flowers and new growth. In January 2017 California had lots of rainfall. The seeds that had been laying dormant in the ground at Joshua Tree woke up and bloomed. Since I am fortunate to live near Joshua Tree in Palm Springs, I drove up a couple of times to see the miracle of nature in April and in May of 2017. I took many, many photographs and totally enjoyed myself at this historical moment in time. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. My friends and I also witnessed the scampering about some of the High Desert animals like: the fox, road runners, bunnies, ravens, and squirrels. So wonderful! I hope you can enjoy my experience at Joshua Tree and make it your own with my photographs. Thank you.

End Time : 6:0:0 PM

Start Date: 8/1/2018

End Date : 9/30/2018

"A Palm Springs Panoply" - New Works by Tug Rice

Beginning April 6, 2018 and running through May 13, 2018, the Grace Home Gallery is pleased to present the first West Coast exhibition of new works by artist Tug Rice.

Rice is an illustrator based in New York City. Working both digitally and with traditional watercolors, Rice is endlessly inspired by Manhattan and its colorful cast of characters. A self-taught artist, Rice has collaborated most recently on projects with Thom Sweeney, Vogue Poland, Rowing Blazers, Olof1982, and He Spoke Style. He is also an artist in residence at the Ace Hotel in New York.

This is the first exhibit of contemporary artwork for the Grace Home Gallery, which is known for displaying modern photographers from the 1940s through the 1970s such as Slim Aarons and Bert Stern. The exhibit will run through May 13, 2018. The artist will be present on Sunday, April 8, from 12pm-3pm. Regular gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm.

Andy Warhol: Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation at the Palm Springs Art Museum

Art-1.jpg

Andy Warhol harnessed the power of celebrity, consumer goods, sex, and disaster to create his iconic Pop Art—and the foundation of his extraordinary career was in printmaking. This retrospective encompasses over 250 works on loan from Schnitzer’s comprehensive collection, and establishes Warhol’s graphic production as it evolved over four decades. The exhibition explores his nearly singular use of the silkscreen process, which established Warhol as a creative provocateur. Spanning the museum’s two major main-floor exhibition galleries, it features instantly recognizable images such as Campbell’s Soup Can (Tomato) and Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn), alongside unique dresses, early graphic ephemera, and rare books. Warhol’s well-known fascination with popular culture instills the exhibition with a chronicle of American life, while anticipating the evolution of today’s hyper-saturated visual culture.
